Select the [Expert] tab to access the Expert Mode of the Color Maintenance Tool (CMT). While it is recommended to always use the Automatic mode of the CMT, an Expert Mode is available to advanced users who may need to:

  • Select a color paper group other than white to perform Destination Profiling.

  • Start each CMT operation separately as an individual step.

NOTE: The spinning color wheel graphic at the top right of the window indicates whether the CMT operation is in progress or has finished. Wait until the wheel no longer spins, indicating that the current operation is complete, before performing further actions.

Expert Mode Color Maintenance Procedure:

Following this procedure is an explanation of each of the individual operations to select in Expert mode and any further actions to take.

  1. To open the CMT, select [Options], and then [Color Maintenance for P1] from the Status window on the Printer Interface or select the [Color Maintenance] tab on the Menu bar. The Color Maintenance window opens with the last tab selected.

  2. Select the [Expert] tab.

  3. In the Options area of the Expert window, select [Best] for the most accurate results. The Mode options available are:

    • Select [Quick] to run fewer pages and take fewer test samples so the check takes less time. The CMT will run 1 set of nonscanned prints to warm up and then another for measurements.

    • Select [Best] (recommended) to make sure that the system is fine tuned for printing high quality images. The CMT will run 1 set of nonscanned prints to warm up and then 3 sets of scanned prints for measurements. Each set contains 4 pages.

  4. Under Stock, select the recommended Standard White Stock that is loaded in the trays.

NOTE: For complete information in selecting the appropriate stock, see the Related Content for additional information.

NOTE: Before selecting Start, make sure both the Print Server and the Printer Interface are not paused and are in a ready to print state.

  5. From the Verification and Recovery area, select the operation to execute and then the [Start] button.

NOTE: If an Engine Check, System Check, or TRC Linearization procedure is interrupted by a paper jam or the system is adjusting print quality, the CMT will automatically restart the operation currently being performed.

Individual operations available for selection from the Expert mode window include:

  • Perform an Engine Check

  • Perform a System Check

  • TRC Linearization (Printer Calibration)

  • Perform dC0951 Xerographic Setup

  • Perform dC0610 Marks on Belt (MOB) Sensor Calibration

  • Perform DFE Profiling
