Replace the Second (2nd) Bias Transfer Roller

IMPORTANT: Place any suspected defective cartridge that is removed from the printer in protective wrapping/packaging material for situations where it may still be a functioning cartridge. If you do not have the original packaging material, use the packaging from the new cartridge.

A message will be displayed on the Control Panel when the second bias transfer roll needs to be replaced.

  1. Remove any paper from the tray on the left side of the printer, then fold up the tray.

  2. Open the Bypass Tray (Tray 5).

  3. Lift up the release lever and open Cover A.

    WARNING: The area around the Fuser can be hot. Use caution to avoid injury.

    CAUTION: Do not touch the Transfer Belt. Touching the belt can reduce image quality or damage the belt. Do not touch the Transfer Roller. Touching the roller can reduce image quality.


  4. Remove the new second bias transfer roll from the packaging. Retain the packaging.

  5. Push the orange lever in, and then lift the used transfer roll out of the printer.

    NOTE: Do not touch any Toner adhering to the transfer roll.

  6. Place the used transfer roll in the plastic bag.

  7. Insert the new transfer roll into the printer, and then press down until the transfer roll clicks into place.

  8. Remove the protective cover, and then close cover A.

  9. Reset the Second Bias Transfer Roller counter.

    1. Login as System Administrator at the Control Panel. See the Related Content for additional information.

    2. Press Device icon.

    3. Select the Tools icon.

    4. Select TroubleShooting tab.

    5. Select Reset tab.

    6. Select the Supply Counter for the item to reset.

    7. Select the 2nd Bias Transfer Roll Counter, and then select Reset Counter.

    8. Select Reset when the confirmation screen is displayed.

    9. Select Close.

    10. Press the Log In / Out button on the Control Panel. The Logout screen will be displayed.

    11. Select the Logout button on the Touch Screen to exit.
