Configure Scan to Network (SMB)/FTP Settings Using the Embedded Web Server

The Shortcuts feature allows you to set up a network scanning destination as a button on the control panel. This allows you to scan documents to a SMB/FTP network folder destination.

Note: If you are having difficulties seeing the menu option for adding a shortcut, you may have to Log in as a System Administrator  to see hidden menu options.

Adding a Shortcut via the Embedded Web Server

  1. From a computer (on the same network as the printer) open a Web browser.

  2. In the Web browser address field, enter the IP address of the printer and then press Enter or Return. The printer home page will be displayed.

  3. Click Shortcuts.

  4. Click Add Shortcut.

  5. Provide information for the following fields:

    1. Shortcut Type: Select Network Folder (for SMB) or FTP.

    2. Shortcut Name: Provide a name for the shortcut that will be displayed on the printer’s screen.

    3. Share Path: Enter both the address/hostname and share path the scanned file will be saved to. Example: //server_hostname/sharename or //ip_address/sharename

    4. File Name: Enter the default filename the scanned file will be named.

    5. Authentication: Select Use assigned username and password to provide predefined login credentials. Other options include Not required, Use logged-in user credentials (printer login), or Prompt for Username and Password.

    6. Username: Enter your computer login username.

    7. Password: Enter your computer login password.

      Note: For FTP setup, Username and Password are required and Share Path will be replaced with Address.

  6. Click Save.

Configuring Scan to Network/FTP Defaults or Editing an Existing Shortcut

  1. From a computer (on the same network as the printer) open a Web browser.

  2. In the Web browser address field, enter the IP address of the printer and then press Enter or Return. The printer’s home page will be displayed.

  3. Click the Shortcut you wish to change defaults for.

  4. Modify the settings as needed.

  5. Click Save.

Scanning to the Network Folder or FTP Server:

  1. Load your original documents:

    • Use the document glass for single pages or paper that cannot be fed using the automatic document feeder. Lift the document feeder, then place the original document face down in the upper-left corner of the document glass.

    • For single or multiple pages, use the automatic document feeder. Remove any staples and paper clips from the pages. Insert the original documents face up in the document feeder, with the top of the page entering the feeder first. Adjust the paper guides so that they fit against the original documents.

  2. Touch Shortcuts > Scan to Network or FTP.

  3. Select the shortcut you wish to scan to. The device will start scanning the loaded original.

  4. If scanning from the document glass: to scan another page load an original and touch Scan the next page. Otherwise, touch Finish the job.

  5. The images are scanned and sent to the destination selected for the shortcut.
