When attempting to ping the printer, a Request Timed Out response indicates the ping command was sent over the network, but no device (such as a computer or printer) on the network received or replied to the command.

If unable to ping the printer, perform the following:

  • Power the printer off, wait 15 seconds, and then power the printer back on. Wait a few minutes, and then try to ping the printer again.

  • Print a Configuration Report and make sure you are pinging the correct IP Address. The assigned IP Address will be displayed on the report under the Network Setup section. To print a Configuration Report, press and hold the red Cancel button on the printer control panel for about 4 seconds. When the Printer Status LED blinks fast, release the button.

  • Make sure the assigned IP Address is a valid IP Address for your network.

  • If possible, try to ping the printer from another computer. If successful from another computer, the initial computer may not be configured properly.

  • If connected to the network via a wired (Ethernet) cable:

    • Disconnect and reconnect the Ethernet cable from the back of the printer. Make sure it is securely connected.

    • Check the Ethernet cable connection at the network port, hub, switch, or router. Disconnect and reconnect the cable and make sure it it securely connected.

    • If connecting to a hub, switch, or router, make sure both the printer and computer are not plugged into the Uplink port. This port is for connecting other hubs, switches, or routers.

    • If the computer is able to ping other devices on the network, replace the Ethernet cable that connects to the back of the printer with a known working cable.
