The Xerox Iridesse™ Production Press uses cartridges of color toner and dry ink. The cartridges are located behind the two smaller doors at the top of the press. The press supports four-, five-, and six-color configurations.

NOTE: The station designations below from left to right are 6 (gold or silver), 5 (black), 4 (cyan), 3 (magenta) , 2 (yellow), 1 (clear, gold, or silver). The station number is not the printing order; this is the designation number for each toner station inside the press. Toner station 6 is the underlay, station 1 is overlay.

The Xerox Iridesse™ Production Press uses HD EA toner for CMYK colors, and HD EA dry ink for Gold, Silver, Clear, White and Fluorescent Pink.

  • The Gold and Silver Dry Inks offer high-reflectance capability. Use these metallic dry inks to add Gold or Silver highlights to logos or graphic images.

  • Use the full-flood method or the spot method, along with the Clear Dry Ink, to enhance your prints. Both methods use a varnish or clear coat to achieve appropriate effects.

  • Use White Dry Ink for accents and special effects.

  • Add Fluorescent Pink Dry Ink to the CMYK colors to obtain new effects and colors.

Specialty Dry Ink Stations and Printing Order of Ink

Four toner stations come standard with the Production Press: Yellow (Y), Magenta (M), Cyan (C), and K Black (K) colors. If you have the optional Specialty Dry Ink stations (Clear-CLR, White-WHT, Gold- GLD, Silver-SLV or Fluorescent Pink-FPK), just two of the three specialty inks can be installed at one time.

From right to left, across the top of the Production Press, the stations are numbered from 1-6. If you have Clear or Low Gloss Clear Specialty dry ink, it can only be loaded in Station 1. If you have Gold or Silver specialty ink, you can load either one in Station 1 or Station 6.

Printing Order of Ink:

The Drum Cartridges transfer the xerographic image onto the Transfer Belt. The Transfer Belt rotates counterclockwise. If Silver is in Station 1 and Gold is in Station 6, the press transfers the images onto the belt laying down Silver first, then Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, Black, and Gold.

The Transfer Belt then transfers the images to the paper. When the image is transferred to the paper, the order of the inks is reversed. As the belt contacts the paper, the Gold on top of the ink layers is transferred first followed by Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Silver. Since Silver is transferred last, it is on top of the ink layers on the paper.

While Station 1 places the ink on the belt first, and the other inks are placed over it, after the transfer to paper, the order of the ink is reversed. As a result, Station 1 is referred to as an Overlay. After the transfer from the belt to paper, Station 6 ink is on top of the other inks, and is called an Underlay.
