PredictPrint Stock Wizard

PredictPrint Stock Wizard PredictPrint Stock Wizard uses a handheld barcode scanner and software applications to do the following:

• Program trays with specific stock properties for a job

• Perform print engine adjustments to optimize print performance for the stock

• Complete calibration and profiling for the stock, which provides maximum image quality and color output

When you open a paper tray or scan a barcode, the PredictPrint Stock Wizard opens and loads stock properties to a tray instantly. The Stock Wizard then provides simple step-by-step guidance through a series of automatic, semi-automatic, and manual setup routines for printing optimization. The Internet-based PredictPrint Cloud Server determines the setup routines that are recommended for the stock.

PredictPrint Stock Wizard Overview

The PredictPrint Stock Wizard is a feature that automates media management for the digital presses. The Administrator can specify whether the PredictPrint Stock Wizard appears in the Control Center.

You can use the handheld barcode scanner to scan a media barcode as follows:

• Scan the barcode, then load the paper in the tray

• Load the paper in the tray, then scan the barcode

When you scan a barcode, the press connects to the PredictPrint Cloud Server and retrieves all the properties and recommended set points and setup routines for the scanned stock.

The PredictPrint Stock Wizard performs all of the advanced setup routines that are recommended to optimize print performance for each stock. When a stock is loaded for the first time, to maximize image quality and color output, the PredictPrint Stock Wizard runs a fully automated Calibration and Profiling process.

The PredictPrint Stock Wizard uses the following processes:

Scan

On the Scan page, you scan the barcode of a specific stock using a barcode scanner. When you scan the barcode, the PredictPrint Stock Wizard connects to the PredictPrint Cloud Server and downloads all the stock attributes, set points, and recommended setup routines for the stock.

Define

If you have an unknown barcode or are creating a custom barcode, the Define screen appears. When you create a custom barcode or scan a barcode that is not listed in the PredictPrint Cloud Server, you are required to define the stock attributes manually.

Note: The stock is defined only once. After you set up the stock, the data is stored on the PredictPrint Cloud Server. To obtain the data automatically, you can scan the associated barcode.

Load

Load the stock in a paper tray. After you load the stock, on the Load screen, select the corresponding paper tray option: Trays 1–2 or A1-1–A2-2, A2-3 (MSI), or T1.

Note: The available tray options are dependent on the configuration of your system. The options appear in accordance with the feeders and finishing devices that are attached to your press.

You can load the stock before or after you scan a barcode or define the stock properties. For multiple tray loading, you can load all trays or scan the barcodes in any order, as follows:

• If you scan the barcodes first: Scan all stock barcodes. To load the stock in the correct trays, follow the wizard screens.

• If you load the trays first: Load all stocks in the appropriate trays. To verify the barcodes for the loaded stocks, follow the wizard screens.

Setup

On the Setup screen, you can confirm whether the stock properties are correct. You can select the paper feed orientation: Long Edge Feed or Short Edge Feed. On the Setup page, the PredictPrint Stock Wizard performs automatic set points and setup routines that are recommended for the stock. The automatic setup routines include:

• Tray Programming

• Alignment Setup: Basic Alignment Setup and Advanced Alignment Setup are automatic setup routines, but their parameters are set on the Automatic Adjustments tab.

  • Basic Alignment runs when you scan the barcode for the first time. Basic Alignment does not run for subsequent barcode scans for the same stock. You can manage this setting on the PredictPrint Cloud Server.

  • Advanced Alignment runs every time you scan the barcode for the stock. You can select the Print Density and Alignment Profile.

• Secondary Transfer Voltage Adjustment

• Calibration and Profiling

Note: Calibration and Profiling is the last routine to run and appears on the Setup screen only if there are no semi-automatic setup routines to run.

Advanced

On the Advanced screen, the PredictPrint Stock Wizard performs semi-automatic setup routines that are recommended for the stock. The advanced setup routines include:

• Aligner Roll Pressure Adjustment

• Fusing Temp Adjustment Belt Side

• Fusing Temp Adjustment PRoll Side

• Tray Heater Adjustment

• Air Assist Adjustment

• Trail Edge Transfer Output Adjustment

• Calibration and Profiling

Done

When the automatic and semi-automatic setup routines are complete, the Done screen shows a list of the manual setup routines that are recommended after you exit the PredictPrint Stock Wizard. You can complete the manual setup routines in the PredictPrint Stock Library.
