Install the Xerox Global Print Driver (X-GPD)

The X-GPD can be installed using the following methods:

  • Xerox Installer

  • Add Printer Wizard provided by the OS

  • Point and Print

    NOTE: The Xerox Installer does not support Citrix Server, Terminal Server, Cluster Server, or Novell Netware environments.

To Install the X-GPD using the Xerox Installer:

  1. Double-click on the [Setup.exe] file to launch the installer.

  2. Review the License Agreement, and then click on [I Agree] to accept the terms of the agreement. The installer will automatically search the network for printers.

  3. Select the required device from the list of discovered printers.

    NOTE: If the installer does not discover the required printer, use the Extended Search or the Advanced Search by clicking on the corresponding buttons.

  4. Click on the [Options] button, select the required PDLs from the Print Driver Selection section, and then click on [OK].

  5. Click on [Install] to begin the installation.

  6. After the installation has finished, the Installation Complete window will be displayed.

  7. Select whether or not to use the printer as the default printer.

  8. Select whether or not to print a test page.

  9. Click on [Finish].

To Install the X-GPD using the Add Printer Wizard:

For Windows XP and Server 2003:

  1. Double-click on the [.exe] file to open the Xerox Global Driver window, and then click on [Install] to extract the files and open the Add Printer Wizard.

  2. Click on [Next].

  3. Select [Local Printer], and then click on [Next].

  4. Select [Create a new port], select [Standard TCP/IP Port], and then click on [Next]. The Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard will be displayed.

  5. Click on [Next], and then enter the printer name or IP address.

  6. Click on [Next].

  7. Click on [Finish]. The TCP/IP Printer Port window will close and the Manufacturer / Printers window will be displayed.

  8. Click on [Have Disk], click on [Browse], and then browse to the location of the printer's .inf file.

  9. Click on [Open], and then click on [OK].

  10. Select the printer from the list, and then click on [Next].

  11. Enter a name for the printer.

  12. Select whether or not to use the printer as the default printer, and then click on [Next].

  13. Select whether or not to share the printer, and then click on [Next].

  14. Select whether or not to print a test page, and then click on [Next].

  15. Click on [Finish].

For Windows Vista and Server 2008:

  1. Double-click on the [.exe] file to open the Xerox Global Driver window. A Security Warning window will be displayed.

  2. Click on [Run], and then click on [Install] to extract the files and open the Add Printer Wizard.

  3. Select [Add a local printer]. The Choose a printer port window will be displayed.

  4. Select [Create a new port], select [Standard TCP/IP Port], and then click on [Next].

  5. Select [TCP/IP Device] from the Device Type pull-down menu.

  6. Enter the hostname or IP address of the printer.

  7. Make sure the "Query the Printer" check box is not checked, and then click on [Next].

  8. If the Additional Port Information Required window is displayed, click on [Next].

  9. Click on [Have Disk], click on [Browse], and then browse to the location of the printer's .inf file.

  10. Click on [Open], and then click on [OK].

  11. Select the printer from the list, and then click on [Next].

  12. Enter a name for the printer.

  13. Select whether or not to use the printer as the default printer, and then click on [Next].

  14. Select whether or not to print a test page, and then click on [Finish].

To Install the X-GPD using Point and Print:

From the server:

  1. Double-click on the [.exe] file to open the Xerox Global Driver window.

  2. Browse to the Xerox\\X-GPD files and select the printer .inf file.

  3. Click on [Add Printer] to open the Add Printer Wizard.

  4. Click on [Next].

  5. Select [Local Printer], and then click on [Next].

  6. Select [Create a new port], select [Standard TCP/IP Port], and then click on [Next]. The Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard will be displayed.

  7. Click on [Next], and then enter the printer name or IP address.

  8. Click on [Next].

  9. Click on [Finish]. The TCP/IP Printer Port window will close and the Manufacturer / Printers window will be displayed.

  10. Click on [Have Disk], click on [Browse], and then browse to the location of the printer's .inf file.

  11. Click on [Open], and then click on [OK].

  12. If applicable, select the printer from the list, and then click on [Next].

  13. Enter a name for the printer.

  14. Select whether or not to use the printer as the default printer, and then click on [Next].

  15. Select whether or not to share the printer, and then click on [Next].

  16. Enter the location of the printer and a comment in the fields provided (optional).

  17. Select whether or not to print a test page, and then click on [Next].

  18. Click on [Finish].

From the client workstation:

  1. Access the server. If necessary, contact your System Administrator for additional assistance.

  2. Select the print queue from the print server.

  3. Perform one of the following:

    • Right-click on the required printer icon and select [Connect].

    • Click on the required printer icon, and then drag and drop the icon onto the Printers folder.

      NOTE: If a message asking to continue is displayed, click on [Yes].
