Clean the Charge Station Discorotron Grids (REP 2)

CAUTION:Keep head, tools, and all other objects from the inside of the Belt Module cavity with power applied to the Print Engine. There is a risk of potential laser radiation, in the event of a system failure, and could result in a serious eye injury.

CAUTION:Wear eye protection and gloves when performing the following procedure. Failure to wear eye protection or gloves could result in serious personal injury.

  1. Prepare a work surface and cover it with several sheets of clean paper.

  2. Put on the gloves and safety glasses.

  3. Open the Front Upper Right Door.

  4. Open the Front Upper Center Door.

  5. Open the Front Lower Center Door.

  6. Disengage the appropriate Discorotron Latch by pushing it away from the Discorotron Assembly.

    NOTE: All four Discorotron Assemblies can be removed in the same manner. (The Station 1 Discorotron is inverted, but the method used is the same.)

  7. Grip the handle and pull the Discorotron Assembly out of the print engine.

    WARNING:Do not damage the grid. A damaged grid can cause IQ problems and arcing.

  8. Position the Grid Cleaning Tool with the external cleaning surface facing away from the discorotron assembly.

  9. Use the tool to straddle the grid with the tool at the center of the assembly.

  10. Slide the tool side-to-side several times.

  11. Return the tool to the center of the assembly and withdraw it from the grid.

  12. Reinstall or replace the Charge Station Discorotron Assembly. Ensure that the Discorotron Latch is engaged.

    NOTE: To avoid damaging the PR Belt when the discorotron assembly is installed, gently bias the handle of the assembly towards the PR Belt. Support, but do not grasp the assembly with the other hand, and avoid applying pressure in an upwards or downwards direction.

  13. Reset the applicable High Frequency Service Item (HFSI) counters. If all of the grids were cleaned as a result of a XPE-09-8160 (All AC Charge Grids), reset the XPE-09-8160 HFSI counter. See the Related Content for additional information.
