Replace the Black (R1) Drum Cartridge

The machine will indicate when a new cartridge should be ordered and when to install the cartridge.

CAUTION: Do not expose the Drum Cartridge to direct sunlight or strong light from indoor fluorescent lighting. Image quality may deteriorate when the Drum Cartridge is exposed to light. If the Drums will be exposed to light longer than two minutes, cover the exposed drums with paper to protect the drums from exposure to light.

Do not touch or scratch the surface of the Drum. Doing so will result in unsatisfactory printing.

NOTE: If the CRU is being replaced due to an image quality problem and the image quality problem is not solved by replacing the CRU, re-install the original CRU back in the machine and return the new CRU to its box for future use.

Powering the machine off will erase all information stored in the machine's memory.

  1. Make sure the machine is powered on and has stopped copying / printing, and then open the Front Door.

  2. Pull down the black R1 - R4 handle.

  3. Raise the release handle.

  4. Remove the new Drum Cartridge from its packaging and place the cartridge near the machine.

  5.  Remove the sheet covering the new Drum Cartridge and place the sheet under the cartridge. Some Drum Cartridges may include a protective film. Remove the film on the Drum Cartridge, if it is present.

  6. Open the Drum Drawer.

  7. Remove the old Drum Cartridge. Grasp the finger rings on both ends of the cartridge and gently lift up to remove the cartridge.

  8. Remove drum cartridge



    NOTE:To return the used Drum Cartridge to Xerox for recycling, follow the instructions included in the packaging with the new Drum Cartridge.

  9. Place the new Drum Cartridge in the machine. Press on both ends of the Drum Cartridge to place it in position.

  10. Remove the top protective black paper strip from the new Drum Cartridge, if present.

  11. Close the Drum Drawer immediately after replacing the Drum to protect the other drums from light.

  12. Lower the release handle to its original position.

  13. Push lever R1 - R4 up to its original position.

  14. Close the Front Door.
