Direct Connection

NOTE: Direct Connection is the default configuration mode.

  1. Make sure that the printer is configured for DHCP.

  2. Connect the printer to the Fiery Server using the crossover Ethernet cable provided with the Fiery (lower Ethernet port).

  3. Connect the Fiery Server to the public network using a straight-through Ethernet cable (not provided). Use the top Ethernet port.

  4. Power on the Fiery Server before powering on the printer.

  5. Power on the printer after "00" is displayed on the Fiery Server Display Screen.

NOTE: It will take approximately three minutes for "00” to display.

  6.  The connection is complete after the Fiery Startup Page prints.

  7.  Troubleshooting steps for the Fiery Startup Page:

    • If the Startup Page does not print, check that the printer IP Address is set to 100.100.100.101 by pressing the [Machine Status] button on the printer's Control Panel.

NOTE: The Fiery Server automatically assigns this address to the printer during startup

    • If the IP Address is not set to 100.100.100.101, check and reseat the cable. This may also require powering the printer off and on

    • If the IP Address is correct, check the "Job Status" to see if the Startup Page is being "Held for Resources".

 Network Switch Connection

NOTE: This is an optional configuration mode. In this mode, the printer and Fiery Server are connected to a network switch, which is connected to the network. In this connection mode both the printer and server have distinct IP addresses.

  1.  This connection mode is recommended only when access to third-party printer applications is needed.|

NOTE: To install in Network Switch Connection mode, you must first complete the Direct Connection setup outlined above.

  2.  Power off the printer and the Fiery Server. If necessary, see the Related Content for additional information.

  3.  Remove the crossover cable.

  4.  Connect the printer to the network switch using a straight-through Ethernet cable (not provided).

  5.  Connect the Fiery Server to the network switch using a straight-through Ethernet cable (not provided). Use the top Ethernet port.

  6.  Connect the network switch to public network using a straight-through Ethernet cable (not provided).

  7.  Power on the printer first and verify that it has an IP Address.

  8.  Power on the Fiery Server and wait for the Fiery Startup Page to print.

  9.  Troubleshooting steps for the Fiery Startup Page:

    • Check the "Job Status" to see if the Startup Page is being "Held for Resources".

    • Check to see if the Printer Setup icon is displayed on the printer Touch Screen. Press the [Services] button on the Control Panel and then press the [Services Home] button.

    • Make sure the printer has an IP Address.

    • If the printer does not have an IP Address, verify that the switch is connected to the network and both the Fiery and printer are properly connected to the network switch.

    •  If a Fiery Startup Page still does not print, configure the printer for the Direct Connect connection.
