How To Remove and Reinstall the Print Driver on a Microsoft Windows OS

NOTE: If the Print Driver is installed on a Print Server, Contact a System Administrator for assistance with driver removal and reinstallation. A System Administrator may also be required if the user does not have the needed permissions to remove and reinstall the print driver.


Remove the Print Driver:

  1. Select the Start menu.

  2. Select Devices and Printers.

    NOTE: If this option is not available from the Start Menu, or the OS is Windows 8 or 10, it can be accessed from the Windows Control Panel.

  3. Right Click the Printer to be Removed.

  4. Select Remove Device.

  5. Select Yes.

  6. Select another Device in the Devices and Printers window.

  7. Select Print Server Properties at the Top of the Devices and Printers window.

  8. Select the Ports tab.

  9. Scroll down and select the IP Port previously used by the removed Printer.

  10. Select Delete Port.

  11. Select OK.

  12. Select the Drivers tab.

  13. Select the Print Driver previously used by the removed printer.

  14. Select Remove.

  15. Select Remove driver and driver package.

  16. Select OK.

  17. Select Yes.

    NOTE: The Print Driver Package cannot be removed if the driver is currently in use with another installed printer.

  18. Select Delete.

  19. Select OK.

Download the New Print Driver:

  1. Open a Web Browser and navigate to the Xerox Website at https://www.xerox.com.

  2. Select Customer Support.

  3. Select Support and Drivers.

  4. Enter the Device Model in the Product Search field and press enter. (ie: 5955)

  5. Select the applicable model of printer.

  6. Select Drivers & Downloads. A list of Drivers & Downloads for the device will now be displayed.

    NOTE: The website should automatically detect your Operating System and Language. If the incorrect settings are displayed, use the dropdowns to select the correct Associated Product, Operating System and Language.

  7. Select Xerox Global Print Driver.

  8. Select the appropriate download link for the PCL, PCL6 or PostScript driver.

  9. Select Run if prompted to run the downloaded file. The Files will now be downloaded.

  10. Select Run again to begin installation of the print driver.

    NOTE: If the Run box does not appear, the installer file can be located and run from the Browsers download folder location.

  11. The software installation window will display. Another license agreement will display when the installation begins.

  12. Select I Agree.

  13. Select Extract.

    NOTE: The Software Installer will extract the driver files to C:\Xerox\ by default.

Install the new Print Driver:

NOTE: An Add Printer wizard may appear after the Software Installer has extracted the driver files. If the Add Printer wizard does not appear, select Add Printer from the Devices & Printers window to begin the installation.

  1. Select Add a Local Printer.

  2. Select Create a new port.

  3. Select Standard TCP/IP Port from the dropdown menu.

  4. Type your printer's IP address into the Hostname or IP address field. The Port name field will automatically populate.

    NOTE: The IP Address of the Device can be acquired from the Machine Status screen at the device, or from a Configuration Report. 

  5. Select Next.

  6. Select Xerox Global Print Driver from the list.

    NOTE: If the Xerox Global Print Driver does not appear, select Have Disk, and locate the driver files at the extracted location (ie: C:\xerox\).

  7. Select Next.

  8. Select Next.

  9. Select Replace the current driver.

  10. Select Next.

  11. Enter the Model Name of the Printer into the Printer Name Field. This will be used to identify the printer from Windows.

  12. Select Next.

  13. Select the Required Sharing Option.

  14. Select Next.

  15. Select Finish.

Configure the Driver TCP/IP Port:

  1. Open Devices & Printers from the Windows Control Panel.

  2. Right click on the new printer.

  3. Select Printer Properties.

  4. Select the Ports tab. The correct port will already be selected.

  5. Select Configure Port.

  6. Select the LPR Protocol.

  7. Type in lp (lowercase letters) into the LPR Settings Queue Name field.

  8. Uncheck LPR Byte Counting Enabled.

  9. Uncheck SNMP Status Enabled.

  10. Select OK.

  11. Select Apply to save changes.

  12. Select OK to exit.
