Configure LPD (Line Printer Daemon)

The Line Printer Daemon (LPD) protocol provides printer spooling and network print server functionality for UNIX-based systems, such as HP-UX, Linux, and Macintosh. Windows®uses LPD for LPR print protocol.

  1. Access the printer's Embedded Web Server and log in as a System Administrator.

    1. From your computer or network-connected device (on the same network as the printer) open a Web browser.

    2. In the Web browser address field, enter the IP address of your printer and then press Enter. The Embedded Web Server home page will be displayed.

    3. Click on the Log In button at the top, right of the page. The User Accounts window will be displayed.

    4. Click on admin.

    5. Enter the System Administrator password in the field provided, and then click on the Log In button.

      Note: Depending on when the device was manufactured, the default password may be the device serial number or 1111.

  2. Click Connectivity.

  3. In the Protocols area, click LPD.

  4. For Port, enable the toggle button.

  5. For Port Number, type a value.

  6. For PJL, enable the toggle button.

  7. Click Print Mode, then select an option.

  8. For TBCP Filter, enable the toggle button.

  9. For Timeout, type the number of seconds that the printer waits when a job is interrupted and data stops arriving.

  10. For Maximum Number of Sessions, type the maximum number of simultaneous jobs that the printer can accept.

  11. Click Parameter Text String Encoding, then select an option.

  12. To use TCP-MSS, enable the toggle button, then for IPv4 Subnet 1, IPv4 Subnet 2, and IPv4 Subnet 3, type the IP addresses and port numbers.

  13. Click OK.

  14. If prompted to restart the device for changes to take effect, click Restart Now.
