Cleaning the Outside of the Machine

CAUTION:Cleaning the outside covering (cabinet) of the machine with cleaning materials containing large amounts of alcohol, solvents, or other strong substances can discolor or crack the cabinet.

Clean the outside of the machine with a soft, lint-free cloth. The cloth can be dampened slightly with water, but be careful not to let any water drip onto or into the machine.

Cleaning the Inside of the Machine

During the printing process, paper, Toner (Dry Ink), and dust particles can accumulate inside the machine. This build-up can cause print quality problems, such as Toner specks or smearing. Cleaning the inside of the machine alleviates these problems.

CAUTION: Do not use warm water or cleaning solvents to remove Toner (Dry Ink) from your skin or clothing. This will set the Toner and make it difficult to remove. If any Toner gets on your skin or clothing, use a brush to remove the Toner, or wash it off with cold water and mild soap. To clean the inside of the machine:

CAUTION: To prevent damage to the Print Cartridge, do not expose it to light for more than a few minutes. Cover it with a piece of paper, if necessary.Do not touch the green surface on the underside of the Print Cartridge. Use the handle on the cartridge to avoid touching this area.

  1. Power off the machine and unplug the power cord. Wait approximately 30 minutes for the machine to cool down.

To clean the Scan Unit:

CAUTION:Use only water or Xerox Lens and Mirror Cleaner to clean the Document (Scanner) Glass. Do not use alcohol to clean the glass. Dampen a soft, lint-free cloth with the liquid; do not pour the liquid directly on the glass. Cleaning with an excessive amount of liquid may damage the machine.

NOTE: Spots, marks, or smudges on the glass will be reproduced onto copies when copying from the Scanner Glass. Spots on the Constant Velocity Transport Glass will transfer onto copies as Lines or streaks when copying from the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).

  1. Remove any documents from the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), and open the Scanner Cover.
