If the printer does not have a network connection, it is possible to upgrade the software via a software upgrade file stored on a USB memory device (flash drive).

WARNING: It is highly recommended to consult with your Network or System Administrator before performing any software (firmware) update. Some updates may cause the printer to become non-compliant and cease to work as intended with the environment in which it is installed.

NOTE: This process uses the print queue, so no jobs will be printed until the upgrade is completed.

NOTE: All configured network settings and installed options will be retained after the upgrade.

Before starting the procedure, make sure that the following items have been performed:

  1. Obtain the new software upgrade file for the printer from the Xerox website at www.xerox.com or by clicking on the [Drivers and Downloads] link under the Related Content section. The upgrade file will have an extension of .hd.

NOTE: It is important to obtain the correct upgrade file for this specific printer model.

  2. Download the upgrade file to the USB flash drive. It is recommended that the file is stored in a subdirectory on the USB flash drive so that it is easier to locate from the printer's Control Panel in step 5 below. The file can be deleted after the upgrade is completed.

To upgrade the printer software:

  1. Insert the USB memory device, with the saved software upgrade file, into the USB memory port on the front of the printer.

  2. Press the [Menu] button on the Control Panel.

  3. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Jobs], and then press the [OK] button.

  4. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Print from USB], and then press the [OK] button.

  5. Locate the software upgrade (.hd) file, and then press the [OK] button to begin the upgrade.

NOTE: The status of the upgrade will be displayed on the Control Panel.

  6. When the upgrade is complete, the printer will reboot automatically. If enabled, the Configuration Report will print. If necessary, review the Configuration Report for changes.
