Install the Xerox PCL6 Global Print Driver on a Microsoft Windows 7 OS for a USB Connection

NOTE: Before performing this procedure, make sure the printer is powered off and not connected to the computer with a USB cable.

NOTE: Before performing this procedure, make sure you have the proper administrative rights to install the driver on your computer.

  1. Select the [Drivers & Downloads] link under the Related Content section.

  2. Click on Xerox Global Printer Driver.

  3. If you have a 32-bit Windows 7 Operating System, click on PCL6 32-bit Driver – Download and install.

    1. If you have a 64-bit Windows 7 operating system, click on PCL6 64-bit Driver – Download and install.

    2. After reading the End User License Agreement, click Accept to start downloading the driver.

  4. After the driver is downloaded, double-click on the file to run the driver installer.

  5. After reading the License Agreement, click Accept to continue with the driver installation.

  6. Make note of what is written in the Destination folder and click Install. By default, a Xerox folder is created in the C: drive folder (C:\Xerox). For this instructional, we will be referencing the default install location. 

  7. After installing the driver, the Add Printer window will open. Click on Cancel.

  8. Click on your Windows 7 Start menu, and then click on Devices and Printers.

  9. At this point, power on the USB Connected Printer and let it boot to the Services menu.

  10. Connect the USB cable to your Windows 7 computer’s USB port.

  11. When Windows 7 detects the printer is connected, it should begin installing an in-box driver that came with the Windows 7 operating system.

    1. If Windows 7 does not detect the printer, disconnect the USB cable, reboot your computer, log back in, and refer back to step 8.

    2. If Windows 7 does not detect your computer after several reboots, contact Xerox Support.

  12. After Windows 7 is finished installing the driver, in the Devices and Printers window, locate your USB connected printer model.

  13. Right-click on the USB Connected Printer, and select Printer Properties.

  14. Click on the Advanced tab.

  15. Click on New Driver.

  16. Click on Next.

  17. Click on Have Disk

  18. Click on Browse.

  19. Navigate to the Xerox folder on your C: drive (C:\Xerox) and open it.

  20. Double-click on the UNIV_(Version Number)_PCL6.inf folder.

  21. Double-click on the file that is displayed.

  22. Click OK.

  23. Click on the Xerox GPD PCL6 V (Version Number).

  24. Click on Next.

  25. Click on Finish.

  26. Click OK to begin installing the Xerox driver.

    NOTE

  27. As the driver installs, it is normal for the Printer Properties window to seem frozen and display a not responding message. Ignore this as it is normal and will clear after the driver is installed.

  28. Right-click on your printer and select Printer Properties again.

  29. Click on the Administration tab.

  30. If the configuration is set to Basic Printing Mode, change it to match your printer model.

  31. Click OK to complete the driver installation. After Windows 7 is finished installing the driver, in the Devices and Printers window, you will see a your USB connected printer model.
