Replace the Drum Cartridge(s)

Note: When it is time to replace the drum cartridge, a message appears on the control panel.

Note: Each drum cartridge includes installation instructions.

To replace a drum cartridge:

CAUTION: Do not perform this procedure when the printer is copying or printing.

CAUTION: Do not expose the drum cartridge to direct sunlight or strong indoor fluorescent lighting. Do not touch or scratch the surface of the drum.

1. Open the front cover of the printer.
   
   
   
   

2. Remove the waste toner transport unit:

   1. To unlock the waste toner transport unit, rotate the locking lever 45 degrees counterclockwise.
      
      
      
      

   2. To release the waste toner transport unit, press both orange tabs as shown, then pull out the unit from the printer.
      
      
      
      

   3. Place the removed waste toner transport unit on a level surface, with the openings facing up.
      
      
      
      

      CAUTION: To avoid toner spills, do not lay the waste toner transport unit face down, or on its side.

      
      
      
      
      

3. To unlock the drum cartridge, turn the orange lever to the right.
   
   
   
   

4. Grip the orange handle of the drum cartridge as shown, then pull the drum cartridge straight out of the printer. Place the used drum cartridge in the plastic bag, then place the bag in the box.
   
   

   WARNING: Do not touch any toner that adheres to the drum cartridge.

   
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
   

5. Remove the packing material from the end of the new drum cartridge.

6. Rest the new cartridge, along with its black plastic protective shield, in the cartridge slot. Load the cartridge in the direction of the arrow on the top of the shield.
   
   
   
   

7. With the guides inserted in the slot, remove the black paper sheet. 

8. Slide the Drum cartridge into the device until it stops.
   
   
   
   

9. Carefully remove the protective shield.
   
   

10. To lock the drum cartridge, turn the orange lever to the left.
    
    
    
    

11. To insert the waste toner transport unit:

    1. Position the waste toner transport unit as shown.
       
       
       
       

    2. Press the waste toner transport unit toward the printer, until both ends click into place.
       
       
       
       

    3. To lock the waste toner transport unit, rotate the locking lever 45 degrees clockwise.
       
       
       
       

12. Close the printer front door.
    
    
    
    

13. Dispose of the protective shield and tape as normal office waste.
