Queues for devices can be created within CentreWare Web to print via either the printer's IP address or DNS Name. When configured to print via the DNS name, CentreWare Web is dependent upon the configuration of the network DNS to properly resolve the device DNS name.
For example, a printer is installed and configured to print via its DNS name. This will not work properly if DNS is set up to only provide TCP/IP->Domain Name resolution, and not Domain Name->TCP/IP lookups. Problems will also exist if there is a record in the DNS table that incorrectly maps the printer's IP address to a different DNS name.
The initial install will succeed, because the device IP address is successfully mapped to a DNS name. However, when the scheduled status retrieval is made to update queue information from the print server, the forward lookup of the DNS name to the IP address fails because of the DNS setup or an incorrect DNS record. This scenario will generate a warning in the CentreWare Web server event log similar to the following:
GetPrinterIpAddressNT[gethostbyname(tks-server.company.com) on queue <\\\\192.168.82.250\\N22125Config1573.1>] failed with error 11004.
tks-server.company.com is the DNS name on the port being looked up.
192.160.82.250 is the IP address of the print server.
N22125Config1573.1 is the name of the print queue.
Also, printing through the queue will not work because the operating system also cannot do the forward lookup to get the IP address to send jobs to.
Your network administrator will need to configure the DNS to properly resolve the device name, or reconfigure the device to print via IP address.
