Follow these instructions to assure that your system is correctly communicating over the network using the TCP/IP protocol (the default protocol for the UNIX operating system running on this device).

After performing these steps, use the hyperlinks at the top of this page to navigate to other guide sections of interest (such as Print Drivers).

Step 1. Cable Connection and NIC Speed Setting. Follow these instructions to physically connect the system to your network.

Step 2. Power On/Off. Follow these instructions to power the system on.

Step 3. Log On. Follow these instructions to log on as System Administrator.

Step 4. Check Installed Options with License Manager. Follow these instructions to verify that you have the correct licensed options installed in this device to assure successful network communications.

Step 5. Set Up TCP/IP. Follow these instructions to set up TCP/IP communications. TCP/IP communications must be enabled to support print job submission from networked workstations using the Web Interface.

Note: Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is the factory-default TCP/IP addressing method. If you prefer to use Static IP addressing, be prepared with a valid IP address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway address (if used).

Step 6. Set Up LPD. Follow these instructions to enable the Line Printer Daemon (LPD).

Step 7. Enter Proxy Information Into Remote Services. Follow these instructions to assure remote support for troubleshooting diagnostics.

Step 8. Log Off. Follow these instructions to log off the system.

Step 9. Reboot the System. If prompted, follow these instructions to reboot the system.

Step 10. Verify TCP/IP Communications with Ping. At a networked workstation, follow these instructions to verify that TCP/IP communications have been successfully set up.

Step 11. Verify Printing over TCP/IP using LPR. At a networked workstation, follow these instructions to verify that you can print to the device using the TCP/IP protocol.
